TRAFFIC TICKET INFORMATION

A schedule of the minimum amount due for certain traffic offenses is listed under the schedule of fines. Charges not listed require a court appearance. You MUST come to court on the date and time shown under “Court Appearance Information” on your traffic ticket or pay the ticket BEFORE your court date.

ALABAMA'S ON-LINE TRAFFIC RESOLUTION SYSTEM (OTR)

Alabama’s On-Line Traffic Resolution System (OTR) allows you to select one of the options available to RESOLVE your ticket online instead of physically appearing in court on the court date shown on your traffic citation (ticket).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAYING TRAFFIC CITATIONS

If you have been charged with any offense listed on the Schedule of Fines, you have the option to submit payment prior to your court date. Payments must be made in full and received by the clerk no less than 24 hours prior to the date your case has been scheduled. You may choose any of the following methods of payment:

  • Credit card, online: Alapay
  • Credit card, by phone: 1-877-252-7294
  • Payment (in person) or by mail: MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK only (NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED)

Failure to pay or failure to appear in court on the date and time indicated on your traffic ticket will initiate one or more of the following actions without further notice to you by the Court:

  1. Late fees shall incur on all cases that are paid on or after the original court date unless otherwise ordered by the Court,
  2. Your bond will be forfeited,
  3. Your driver’s license will be suspended and will not be reinstated total fines and costs have been paid in full. Alabama Department of Public Safety requires that a reinstatement fee be paid in addition to any and all monies due to the Court.

PROOF OF INSURANCE

If your insurance was valid on the date of your citation, on the vehicle you were driving, please complete a Motion to Dismiss and file with the Circuit Clerk’s Office with a copy of your proof of insurance. Your motion must be hand delivered or mailed, by USPS, to the Clerk of Court.

Continuance for Trial

Requests for continuances must be submitted IN WRITING, to the office of the Russell County Circuit Clerk, no less than 14 days prior to the court appearance date. Your request must include your full name, traffic citation number (if known), mailing address and telephone numbers that you may be reached during daytime hours. Telephone requests are not accepted as the written requests must be forwarded to the judge for review.

Continuance for Payment

If you have been charged with any offense listed on the Schedule of Fines, which does not require a court appearance, you may submit a completed and signed Guilty Plea form to the Russell County Circuit Clerk. The clerk or magistrate will accept the plea and you will be granted an additional 30 days to pay the fines and costs. There is, however, a $25.00 increase in the total amount due.
